About Glans Inflammation
A glans, which can be found in your penis, is a rounded head that appears to be the tip of your penis. It is located at the top center of your penis and inside this is the opening of the urethra. The urethra is tube-like where the urine and semen are being released out of the body.
Initially, at birth, the glans is connected or attached to the foreskin of the penis. This foreskin separates from the glans as you get older. That foreskin also reaches the size that you can retract it or move. It grows and separates through time. Not instantly but gradually as you age and go through stages of body development and puberty. It takes as long as 20 years to fully separate.
Some countries have the custom of early circumcision, from days to weeks old that the male baby has been born, he must immediately undergo circumcision. There is an implied risk in doing so. Since most of the foreskin is removed, the glans is exposed all the time. This brings great risk for the baby to get various infections. Since the urethra is placed at the center of the glans, the infection that might get into it may result in urethritis.
