  Gonorrhea is known as the clap, is a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Infection may involve the genitals, mouth, and/or rectum. Infected men may experience pain or burning with urination or testicular pain. Infected women may experience burning with urination, vaginal bleeding between periods, or pelvic pain. Complications in women include pelvic inflammatory disease and in men include inflammation of the epididymis. Many of those infected; however, have no symptoms. If left untreated, gonorrhea can spread to joints or heart valves.

Causes of Gonorrhea

  In females, untreated gonorrhea may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and this is an infection of the fallopian tubes, uterus, and cervix. If you left it untreated, PID may cause permanent damage to the reproductive tract, which may lead to infertility. It may also lead to long-term pelvic pain.

  Complications for Men

  The most common complication of gonorrhea in men could be a condition known as epididymitis. It causes inflammation around the tubes within the testicles that carry semen, symptoms include pain and swelling within the testicles, and possibly fever.
